My shoot will be based on the idea of a couple having a cold, rainy brittish sea side holiday, shot in black and white, highly stylised with refernces to german expressionism, in terms of shaddows and the structure of some of the locations. The shoot will take place on 2 days on two locatons. The first being a beach, there i will shoot, under the pier, on the actual beach, on the stones, on the rocks and maybe on the breakwaters. i will experiment on the day, but here are some quick unedited test shots.

MAKE UP IDEAS.......

I like the idea of exagerating James sad eyes, making his eyes appear bigger by excentuating the shadows in his eye sockets. Much like the makeup on Jonny Depp in Edward Scissorhands.
With Kirsty, i'd also like to exagerate her large eyes with thick black eye lashes and black eyeshaddow for a really intense, gothic look. echoing the german expressionism.

TEST SHOOT:

James headshot.

just to see how James looks on camera I did a quick headshot of him...
Im very pleased with how he looks.
I love the sadness in his eyes and the shape of his face is perfect for my ideas....

I have decided on my 2 models.
I shall be using James as I love his tall slim frame and his strong facial features. He has the essence of the German expressionism melancholy in his face which will look great in my pictures.
I shall also be using Kirsty. She has beautiful big eyes I love her style.
The way the two models will totally contrast is something that i'm very much looking forward to.

Using my research on German Expressionism, I'd like to create a set of black and white pictures with that same dramatic feel.
I shall refernce it in the styling of the models, the location and the qaulity of the images using post production....
I really love the look of the movie Sin City which refernces alot of German Expressionsim in it's look. I shall use the imagery of the movie as my main inspiration.

I have been looking at German Expression art from the 1920's.
I love the use of light and shade, shaddows, and the structure of the sets.
I also love the great sense of horror and sadness.

I have decided to create an editorial around the idea of a disfunctional couple.

They will look totally different and will be contrasting in size, shape and look.

I have not yet decided if i shall contrast their looks by making them appear close and united.
Results from my research........

1: The couples are either contrasting or mirroring eachother....
If they are mirroring they are showing wearing matching or the same outift. The result of this usually makes them appear close.
If they are contrasting they are usually wearing outfits that clash and the result makes the couple appear unhappy or disfunctional.

2: Models are usally simular looking, creating a twinning feel, or they are totally differnt in the size, shape and looks, adding to a sense of disfunction.

3: Depending on the look of the couple, the body language either shows them as being close and affectionate or distant and awkward. Though sometimes a couple may be styled to look together, but their body language will contrast this...

4: Androgyny is used alot in couple photography and proves successfull in showing the unity of a close couple.
